Shed Light Added
The turntable area has undergone a few changes, though they are only visible at night. One of the two lights there has been moved from the old, single-stall shed where the Pennsylvania Engine is kept to the new, double-stall shed where the Shay and the Stainz locomotives are kept. The other light remains inside the turntable house.
There were many reasons for the move. First, the light was barely visible where it was and the shed's windows weren't transparent. That left us with two options: put it outside to illuminate the area or put it inside the new shed. We chose the latter. The wire now winds itself under a piece of plywood supporting the track in front of the shed and through a
crack at the bottom of the intersection between the doors. Then it travels up the wall and across the center roof truss until it finds itself at the center of the shed. Wrapping the wires around the truss keeps the light securely in place, and it is high enough for light to spread throughout the shed, out the windows, and onto the surrounding grounds.
While the light was being put up, the entire railroad was in a frenzy of holiday excitement. The annual decorations and Christmas Tree are expected to arrive next week. Plus, who knows what Santa will give to the railroad this year. Last year he delivered the double-stall shed, 2002 brought the Track-Cleaning Engine, and the Santa Fe FA-1 Bulldog Nose arrived in 2001. We will of course keep you apprised of this year's developments.
